23-km Bike Path on the Rodovia do Sol Will End Near Perocão
R$72.8 million project will connect Vila Velha to Setiba, the neighborhood next to Argos Cabins on Espírito Santo's north coast
8/10/2026

Anyone cycling the Rodovia do Sol today, between Vila Velha and Guarapari, shares the shoulder with cars and trucks — there is no dedicated bike lane on this stretch. That is about to change. The Espírito Santo state government has put out to bid a 23-kilometer bikeway running from Terra Vermelha, in Vila Velha, to the Setiba neighborhood in Guarapari — a few minutes' drive from Argos Cabins, in Perocão. Construction has not started yet, but the bidding, budget and deadline are already set, and the route ends close to where this operation's guests stay.
The project that will connect Vila Velha to Guarapari
The Espírito Santo State Secretariat of Mobility and Infrastructure (Semobi) published the bikeway's bidding notice on December 22, 2025. The public bidding session took place on March 30, 2026, and drew proposals from 19 construction companies across eight states — a sign of the project's scale. The planned investment is up to R$72.8 million, with a contractual deadline of up to 24 months between signing the contract, the executive design and the completed construction. The state's Secretary of Mobility and Infrastructure, Fábio Damasceno, summed up the goal publicly: expand safety and comfort for cyclists, encourage bicycles as everyday transportation, and add value to the urban spaces along the highway.
Where the route passes near Perocão
The project covers the stretch between kilometer 17 of the Rodovia do Sol (ES-060), in Terra Vermelha, Vila Velha, and kilometer 40, in the Setiba neighborhood, already in Guarapari. Setiba is a direct neighbor of Perocão — the same 10-to-15-minute drive that separates Argos Cabins from Guarapari's Historic Center, only in the opposite direction, toward Vitória. It is also where the Paulo César Vinha State Park sits, with the trail to the Lagoa Coca-Cola this Diário has already covered in another post. The bikeway ends at exactly that point on the map: once built, it will be possible to cycle from Setiba toward Greater Vitória on a dedicated lane, without sharing the road with the Rodovia do Sol's heavy traffic. One more detail closes the loop: part of the project redevelops Guarapari's old toll plaza, the same one that stopped charging tolls in December 2023. The lane that today serves only cars gains, at that same spot, a second purpose.
The Rodovia do Sol bikeway ends in Setiba — a short ride from Perocão, on the other side of the same road that today serves only cars.
What the project promises, point by point
- 23 kilometers of dedicated lane, from km 17 (Terra Vermelha, Vila Velha) to km 40 (Setiba, Guarapari).
- Four elevated crossings at the busiest intersections, so cyclists don't have to cut across car traffic.
- Support points along the route, with rest infrastructure.
- Redevelopment of Guarapari's old toll plaza, unused since the toll was scrapped in December 2023.
- Integration with the Ciclovia da Vida, a metropolitan network of over 100 km already linking Vitória, Vila Velha, Serra and Cariacica.
While the project is still on paper
Until the bikeway is finished, cycling between Perocão and Setiba remains a regular-street ride, with no dedicated lane — better suited to riders already comfortable in mixed traffic than to a family outing with a small child. Within the neighborhood itself, the calmest option is the loop along the waterfront, between Praia do Perocão and Praia do Boião, without leaving the residential streets. Argos Cabins sit on Rua Domingos Correia da Rocha, across from Terraço, inside Perocão: Cabana Cavalo Marinho and Cabana Ouriço do Mar, side by side, each 69 sqm, with ocean views and a private parking spot — plenty of room to stash the bike before walking down to the sand. The operation is a private, premium short-term rental, with human support in Portuguese, English and Spanish within one business hour — this isn't a hotel, and whatever is in the cabin on arrival day is what's included, with no daily restocking.

Check availabilityFrequently asked questions
Is the Rodovia do Sol bikeway already finished?
No. The bidding notice was published in December 2025, the public bidding session took place in March 2026, and the contractual deadline is up to 24 months between contracting, design and construction — no completion date has been confirmed publicly yet.
Does the bikeway run through Perocão itself?
Not directly. The route ends in Setiba, the neighborhood next to Perocão, a 10-to-15-minute drive from Argos Cabins — it's the closest end of the project to the area.
Can you cycle from Perocão to Setiba today?
Yes, but on a regular street with no dedicated lane — not recommended for riders without experience in mixed traffic. Within the neighborhood, the waterfront between Praia do Perocão and Praia do Boião is the calmest place to ride.
How much does the project cost and who pays for it?
Up to R$72.8 million, budgeted by the Espírito Santo state government through Semobi. Nineteen construction companies from eight states submitted proposals at the March 2026 public session.
Is the bikeway part of a larger project?
Yes. It's part of the Ciclovia da Vida, a metropolitan network of over 100 km already connecting Vitória, Vila Velha, Serra and Cariacica — with Guarapari joining in through the Setiba end.
