Perocão in northern Guarapari: geography, distances, and routes

Why the road from Vitória is shorter than it looks — and what’s just minutes from the cabanas.

Cabana Cavalo Marinho in Perocão, Guarapari/ES — front of the Argos premium unit in the municipality’s northern zone, near the waterfront

People who book a cabana in Perocão for the first time usually arrive thinking they’re headed to the Anchieta axis — the south side of Guarapari. They’re not. Perocão is in the north: 8 kilometers from downtown, about 50 minutes from Vitória via Rodovia do Sol, and — for anyone coming from the capital — before downtown, not after. This post is the map we hand to anyone thinking about coming, without the Booking or Airbnb filter.

Where Perocão actually is

Perocão is a neighborhood in the municipality of Guarapari (not Vila Velha, not Anchieta), in the northern zone. It’s tucked between Santa Mônica and Jabaraí, along the Rodovia do Sol (ES-060) — the road that connects Vitória to Espírito Santo’s southern coast. It has historical roots: Aldeia de Perocão has been recorded since the 16th century, and the neighborhood still carries a fishing vocation to this day. Guarapari has 57 cataloged neighborhoods; Perocão is one of them, with its own identity and a quieter pace than the central waterfront.

From Vitória — 50 minutes via Rodovia do Sol

From the capital, it’s a straight shot. It’s roughly 52 kilometers on ES-060, about 50 minutes in good conditions — and, since December 2023, toll-free (the stretch moved to DER-ES and the fee was abolished). From Aeroporto Eurico Salles (VIX), it’s 62 to 64 km, between 1h and 1h15 depending on traffic. For guests on a morning flight, you can have lunch in Perocão that same day.

From downtown Guarapari — 8 km, 10 to 15 minutes

Anyone coming from Maceió, Salvador, or already down on Espírito Santo’s southern coast passes through downtown Guarapari first — and from there to Perocão it’s just 8 km, 10 to 15 minutes by car, still on ES-060. If you’re coming from Vitória, it’s the opposite: Perocão shows up before downtown. It’s the kind of detail that keeps you from losing your GPS on your first arrival — you don’t need to cross all of Guarapari to get here.

Perocão gives you the calm of the northern zone — and keeps the Historic Center, Setiba, and the dive islands just a few minutes away by car.

Who we are and why we’re telling you this

Argos Premium Stays is a private premium seasonal-rental operation, with units in Copacabana (Rio de Janeiro) and in Perocão (Guarapari). This Diário exists because anyone thinking about coming to ES deserves the map before they book — instead of learning the geography in an airport Uber. We’re not a hotel and we’re not an agency; we’re a direct operation, with human support in Portuguese, English, and Spanish within one business hour.

What’s around

Perocão’s waterfront has two beaches of its own: Praia do Perocão, right in front of the neighborhood, and Praia do Boião, with about 170 meters of sand and calm water — ideal for families with kids. A few minutes by car, three neighboring options open up: Setiba (golden sand, dunes, restinga, inside the APA de Setiba), Setibão (to the south, better for surfing), and Dulé (to the north, sprinkled with shells). The famous Praia do Morro, in the central urban zone, is about 15 minutes away. Meaípe (southern zone, food scene) is 20–25 min, and Iriri (Anchieta) about 30 min — which means the southern axis, even if it’s not where you sleep, is easy to reach for lunch or a sunset.

The anchor attraction: Parque Paulo César Vinha

Perocão’s next-door neighbor, in Setiba, is Parque Estadual Paulo César Vinha. It has three official trails: Trilha da Restinga (2.5 km to “Lagoa Coca-Cola,” the affectionate nickname for Lagoa de Caraís because of the water’s dark color), Trilha do Alagado (480 m, shorter), and Trilha da Clusia (150 m, accessible). There’s a lookout facing Serra de Buenos Aires. The park is in a concession process for expansion: zipline, cable car, and glamping are on the slate. It’s the most obvious half-day plan for anyone staying in Perocão.

National-class diving

Guarapari concentrates the highest biodiversity of reef fish on Brazil’s coastline, according to surveys from the scientific diving community itself. Reference points include Ilha Escalvada (the lighthouse is visible from shore), Três Ilhas (good for shallow snorkeling, ideal for beginners), and the wrecks Bellucia (1903) and Victory 8B (sunk in 2003 as an artificial reef). The best window runs from December to May, with visibility reaching 15 meters. Commercial departures leave from Guarapari’s central marina, 15 minutes from Perocão.

Three routes to the same cabana

  1. Coming from Vitória or from the VIX airport. ES-060 straight through, ~50 min (Vitória) or ~1h (VIX), toll-free.
  2. Coming from São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, or Brasília. BR-101 to Amarelos, then onto ES-060 via the newly paved stretch (~7.8 km, R$ 40 million project completed by DER-ES). Shorter than going down the coast road.
  3. Coming from downtown Guarapari. 8 km on ES-060 toward Vitória — Perocão shows up on the right just after Santa Mônica.

Events worth syncing with your calendar

The second half of the year in Guarapari has three milestones that matter for anyone staying in Perocão, in calendar order. Festa de São Pedro, downtown, June 26–29 — a maritime procession of boats on the 29th (municipal holiday). It’s the first seasonal event for guests booking now. Festival Guarapari de Inverno 2026, July 17–26, on Avenida Joaquim da Silva Lima — opening with 14 Bis, plus Luciana Mello, Fat Family, and Thiago Martins across the ten days (we covered the full lineup in an earlier Diário post). And Festival da Moqueca Capixaba, in Castelhanos/Anchieta — in 2025 it ran September 4–7, and the 10th edition is expected in September 2026, keeping the rhythm. Three windows when it pays to plan your stay ahead.

Where to stay with an ocean view

In Perocão, we operate Cabana Cavalo Marinho and Cabana Ouriço do Mar, on Rua Domingos Correia da Rocha, S/N, across from Terraço — both at the same address, within the neighborhood, close to the waterfront. Each one is 69 square meters, sleeps four, has an ocean view, a private leisure area with a soaking tub and a fire-pit-style grill, plus one private parking space per cabana. Pets are considered case by case, depending on size and profile. We don’t provide a crib — kids are welcome, but families bring their own. Like our Copa units, we’re not a hotel: what’s in the apartment on arrival day is what’s included, with no daily replenishment. Human support in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, always within one business hour.
