Anyone traveling to Guarapari with a pet needs to know, first of all, that dogs and cats are not allowed on the sand of any beach in the municipality, under Municipal Law 3,804/2014. The trip still works well: the animal's walks happen on the streets, on the sidewalks and in the outdoor area of the lodging, and the Argos cabins, in the northern part of the city, accept pets when the animal is declared at booking.

Can you take a dog to the beach in Guarapari?

No. Municipal Law 3,804/2014, which covers animal welfare, responsible ownership and the movement of animals on public roads, expressly prohibits dogs and cats on the beaches of Guarapari, as well as in sandboxes open to the public. The law treats the owner or handler who takes the animal onto the sand as the offender, and the city government advises contacting the Zoonosis Control Center when there are animals on the beach. The rule applies to all of the city's more than 50 beaches, from the busiest, such as Praia do Morro, to the small coves in the northern part of the city. As a result, families usually split the day: whoever wants the sea goes to the beach, and the animal stays at the lodging with someone from the group or joins the walk around the streets.

Where can you walk a pet in Guarapari?

Pet walks in Guarapari happen away from the sand. The surrounding streets and sidewalks work for short walks early in the morning and late in the afternoon, before the asphalt and pavements heat up. A leash, a collar and bags to pick up droppings are the basics of any outing. Paulo César Vinha State Park, in Setiba, about 7 km from the cabins, does not allow domestic animals: anyone who wants to see Lagoa de Caraís, known as Lagoa Coca-Cola, goes without the pet. In the heat of the Espírito Santo summer, the best place for the animal during the hours of strong sun is inside the cabin, with shade, fresh water, air conditioning and company.

How do you get to Guarapari by car with a pet?

For those coming by car, the cabins are about 50 km from Vitória, usually less than an hour along Rodovia do Sol. The Brazilian Traffic Code addresses the transport of animals in two points: driving with the animal on the lap, between the arms and legs or on the driver's left side is a medium infraction (art. 252), and carrying animals on the outside of the vehicle, such as in a pickup bed, is a serious infraction (art. 235). A carrier fastened to the seat or a pet safety harness solves both situations. For those flying into Vitória Airport, the rules for animals in the cabin vary from airline to airline and should be checked when booking the flight.

How does the cabin work for guests traveling with a pet?

Both Argos cabins in Guarapari, Cavalo Marinho and Ouriço do Mar, accept pets. The condition is to declare the pet at booking and to take care with the furniture and the wooden structures, since the cabins are wooden A-frame buildings. Each cabin sleeps up to four people and has a sea view, air conditioning, a full kitchen, a lawn with a rustic outdoor shower and a private parking space, which makes it easy to unload the carrier, bed and food straight from the car. Check-in is self-service, as explained in the guide to check-in at the cabins. Quiet hours, from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., also apply to barking, since the two cabins stand side by side.

In Guarapari, pets do not go on the sand; that is why the lodging needs to be the place where they enjoy the trip.

The outdoor area calls for two precautions. The first is keeping the animal away from the fire-pit grill when it is lit, as detailed in the guide to a night in the cabin's outdoor area. The second is keeping the pet out of the hot tub, which is prepared for people, as described in the guide to the sea-view hot tub.

What should go in the pet's luggage?

  1. Up-to-date vaccination card, useful for any veterinary visit away from home.
  2. Food for every day of the stay, plus a reserve for delays on the way back.
  3. Water and food bowls, plus a bottle of water for the car journey.
  4. A familiar bed or blanket, which helps the animal adapt to the new environment.
  5. Leash, collar with ID tag and bags to pick up droppings on walks.
  6. Carrier or safety harness for the car.

What if the pet needs a vet in Guarapari?

Guarapari has veterinary clinics downtown and in nearby neighborhoods such as Muquiçaba, about 15 minutes by car from the cabins, and some clinics advertise 24-hour emergency service. Before traveling, it is worth saving the address and phone number of the nearest one, confirming emergency hours by phone and bringing the animal's ongoing medication in the right amount for the stay, since not every veterinary medicine is easy to find away from home.
